Kali Uchis, born Karly Marina Loaiza, recently released her album “Sincerely,” on May 9 and began her North American tour on Aug. 14. Uchis is a Colombian-American singer, songwriter and grammy winner who includes a mixture of pop, Latin and R&B in her music. During her teenage years, she played the saxophone and piano and had a big interest in poetry. This led her into the path of writing songs on her keyboard and eventually releasing her first mixtape in 2012. A few of her most popular songs include, “telepatía,” “Moonlight” and “Get You,” where she was featured on a track by Daniel Caesar.
For the show, the doors open at 7 p.m., the openers, Thee Sacred Souls, come out at 8 p.m. and end around 8:30 p.m., and finally Uchis comes out at 9 p.m. until around 10:40 p.m. Ticket pricing is fairly affordable, starting at a minimum of $40 and having an average price of $200 for two tickets, depending on the seat and location. The outfits that most people wear try to match the aesthetic of “Sincerely,” with soft, floral themes. In reference to clothing and prices, tour merch includes tees, tanks, hoodies and more ranging from $20 to $125. The setlist begins with the song “Heaven is a Home…” from her most recent album and ends with “Moonlight” from her album “Red Moon In Venus,” which she released in 2023.
“I think the one that I really wanted to be on the set list was ‘Hasta Cuando’ because I actually related to it so much during the 8th grade,” sophomore Andrea Alfaro, who went to the concert on Sept. 5, said.
In addition to winning a Grammy award, Uchis has won eight other music awards and has been nominated for Latin Grammys five times. She has collaborated with artists such as Peso Pluma, Karol G and Tyler, the Creator. Between the two nights that Uchis performed in LA, she brought out Peso Pluma, SZA, Steve Lacy and Omar Apollo.
“I’m manifesting that she brings someone out on stage. I’m manifesting Karol G, Rauw Alejandro, I’m manifesting Tyler, the Creator at this point. I’m manifesting anybody at this point,” Alfaro stated.
These unexpected guests made the fans who were at the concert extremely thankful and thrilled, but the people who were not able to go were full of envy. They believed that other cities should have guest celebrities too and not just LA. The tour ends on Sept. 28, but if you missed out on these shows Uchis will be performing on Oct. 23 in Highland, California!
