PROM: A GUIDE
Fun ways to celebrate the magical night of prom.
March 14, 2019
It has been hours, you are on your fifth store, you are exhausted and so far have not had any luck. You try on dress after dress, but none seem to hug your curves the right way or accentuate your best features the way you envisioned. Time is running out, and fear begins to set in. The pressure to find the perfect dress, tuxedo, shoes, hair style and accessories settles, and you begin to wonder where you want to take all your prom pictures before the big night, as well as figure out the transportation situation. Whether or not you choose to find a date or go with friends also crosses you mind. For something that should be relaxing and fun, prom sure seems like a struggle, but the process does not have to be so frustrating. With a little guidance, answering these questions will prove far more easy than you thought.
SHOPPING
If you do not want to spend a ton of money on a prom dress that you honestly might only wear once, there are plenty of consignment stores in the Palm Beach area that offer reasonable prices for beautiful dresses. Even other mainstream stores can offer reasonable options for gorgeous dresses that will not wreak havoc on your checkbook. Shops such as Macy’s and JCPenney have a wide variety of prom dresses, and many cost around $100 dollars. Even thrift stores including Red Balloon often have dresses suitable for prom. Shopping on online stores is another option as well, but keep a lookout for advertisements that prove to be scams. Perhaps you are not the best at doing your own makeup, but still want to look extra good for the dance. If this is the case, talk to your parent or ask your friends to help you out. There are many who are talented with makeup and who might offer a small price, or even charge nothing at all, to help make you look amazing.
As for guys, if you do not have the space for a tux to take up in your closet, renting a one is often more affordable and ideal than buying one you will not wear again. Some tuxedos can cost as much as $700 dollars. While renting may still be rather expensive, you can easily find prices around $80 to $100 dollars. Such a store offering budget prices includes Men’s Warehouse, a popular store with plenty of styles one can pick from. As for shoes, while they may be rather pricey in some stores, you can easily find nice dress shoes for affordable prices when shopping on reputable online stores. If you are scared of getting scammed, check the online store’s credentials and look up their reviews.
TRANSPORTATION
It is understandable if you do not want to drive yourself to prom in fear of being too tired after the dance, bored of driving the same old car and wanting spice things up for the big night, or simply because you want this night to relax and have fun. If this is the case, you can easily Uber to the dance, and the same goes if you want to go to dinner before. Renting limos can be expensive, and if neither you nor you parents want to pay for an extravagant ride for just you and your date, try to get a group of friends to split the bill more ways and cut down on the individual cost. You, your date and all your friends can all enjoy a fancy ride to dinner and then the dance afterwards. There are other apps to rent luxury cars for a good price. Aside from Uber, Turro is another app that allows people to rent cars to show up in style.
LOCATION
Palm Beach is known for its class and beautiful, coastal attractions. You can easily go to Lake Worth Ave and take draw-dropping photos with your friends. There are plenty of mansions, gardens and beaches to give a great background for your prom pictures. Prom will be held at the Harriet Himmel Theater, located in City Place, which in itself is already a beautiful location to take pictures while you are all dressed up, as well as convenient, seeing you will already be within walking distance of the dance’s location.
